Ljiljana Petkovic Orchestra (Duo with August Engkilde) :

How does it feel when your mother tongue is German, your soul is slavic but you live in the UK among celtic souls speaking English and behaving very british?

Ljiljana Petkovic got more than upset when she realized that even the people in her dreams began to talk English. She bought an empty book, some pencils and started to write German lyrics. At night Ljiljana played her blue melodica on her tiny balcony that offered barely enough room for an ashtray, a small flowerpot and a woman without a chair.
Melancholic and strange sad slavic melodies echoed through Shoreditch.....

When she had collected enough material for an album (mentally, emotionally and physically) Ljiljana left London and returned to her beloved city Berlin.

Together with her friend August Engkilde, a danish multi instrumentalist and producer, she formed the Ljiljana Petkovic Orchestra. August liked Ljiljana's songs and he decided to produce the album. The result is a combination of Eastern Folklore Rhythms, German Chansons, Jazz, Gipsy style inspired ballads as well as electronically treated beats and sounds - all together best described as "Urban Chansons". Besides from 3 cover songs fitting perfectly into this concept all other songs were written by Ljiljana Petkovic in London.
The album "Hinter dem Spiegel" was released in 2009 on Brumtone.

The live shows of Ljiljana Petkovic Orchestra are multidimensional :

For those who love to listen to music: You will enjoy those many subtle layers of instruments and sounds produced and re-arranged live by August Engkilde who also plays the bass and some other instruments, accompanied by Ljiljana playing soli on her blue melodica and her blue bells and with sometimes Richard Eigner playing drums.

For those who understand German (and maybe a bit Polish) and love to listen to stories Ljiljana will present little funny and sad tales during their shows.

For the more visual oriented listener the show is accompanied by a very ornamented and atmospheric live video performance by Christian Buchmayr.
He is an artist and architect from the alps who likes to play with geometry, abstract shapes, surfaces, colours, rhythms and proportions creating emotional patterns.
