Is the imprint for Stefan Schneider's excursions into repetitive music. The sound of Mapstation owes a lot to recent Jamaican dancehall as well as to modern serial composition. He has released albums and 12" singles on labels such as Staubgold, ˜scape or Domino. His new album "The Africa Chamber" will be released on ˜scape in October 2009. The sound aesthetics come from the use of regular analogue and digital synthesizers, tape recorders and step sequencers. During the past seven years Mapstation has maintained an absolutely unique and characteristic language of sound. Quite recently Schneider has started to explore the field of electro acoustic compositions. Besides being frequently commissioned for theatre plays and sound installations he also created the album "Forest Full of Drums" which has entirely been recorded in a forest nearby Düsseldorf. During the years Stefan Schneider has collaborated on stage and in the studio with musicians like Bill Wells, Dieter Möbius (Cluster), Carsten Nicolai, Philippe Poirier, Ras Donovan, Pole, Martin Brandlmayr, Annie Whitehead and Paul Wirkus. Since the beginning of Mapstation’s sonic activities, Schneider has put emphasis on dynamic live presentations of his music. He has traveled most parts of Europe and brought his music to Northern Africa, Siberia, Japan and China. In 2010 he will be playing an extensive tour in Australia.
