SYMPHONY X TRIO
featuring the original Redux Orchestra tracks remixed live by Ari Benjamin Meyers with live electronics by Max Loderbauer and live video by Lillevan.

Ari Benjamin Meyers initiated the trend-setting project Club Redux – a platform in which he explored the pairing of contemporary music with dance and electronic music in a series of club nights at Watergate in Berlin. The 17-piece Redux Orchestra that grew of these performances has established itself as an independent force on the new music scene.

Now, together with Max Loderbauer, Meyers has created an electro-acoustic rendering of SYMPHONY X with Lillevan being invited to create and perform a live film perfectly meshing with and expanding on the textures and rhythms of SYMPHONY X. The resulting SYMPHONY X TRIO version can be performed in clubs, at festivals, or in galleries.

SYMPHONY X is a modern work on a symphonic scale albeit one condensed into a wholly original musical language through the fusion of elements from hardcore, classical, and minimal music. Ari Benjamin Meyers wrote the 70 minute, completely through-composed work for his own 17-piece Redux Orchestra. This high impact music is not only technically challenging for the players but also extremely demanding physically. The composer has united complex repetitive string and horn arrangements with electro-noise, militaristic drum rhythms and penetrating guitar riffs that, at a constant tempo of 120bpm, build to create a sonically brutal tour de force. Meyers has called upon his wide ranging musical experience gained from collaborations with Philip Glass, Einstürzende Neubauten, The Residents, The Orb, Morton Subotnik, the Dresden State Opera, and the Staatskapelle Berlin, amongst others. However, SYMPHONY X is not “crossover”, but a true hybrid that in its uniqueness belongs both in the classical symphony hall and at rock festivals. Ari Benjamin Meyers and his Redux Orchestra feel equally at home in both settings.
SYMPHONY X was released on Einstürzende Neubauten’s Potomak label in November 2009.
